As a classic of the Confucian school, The Book of Songs is not only the headwaters of the effulgence of Chinese literature, but also the historical material of studying the politics, economy, thoughts, culture, customs as well as the origin and interrelation of nationality from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period.Since the completion of The Book of Songs in Spring and Autumn Period, it has influenced the history greatly and there have been enormous amount of works of study and research on it. There are different theories about the Consisting Ballads of love between boys and girls, among which, the lascivious poetry theory in Commentary of Poems by Zhu Xi of Song Dynasty. In Zheng Ballads and Wei Ballads, the poems which describe the love between boys and girls were regarded as lascivious poetry, even as the exhibition of Zheng lascivious poetry, which attached lewdness to Zheng Ballads, and which actually contains many political and historical reasons.During Yuan and Ming Dynasty Zhu's Commentary of Poems was regarded the standard of imperial examination, and in early Qing Dynasty Neo-confucianism was regarded the official theory, which helped the spread of Zhu's lascivious poetry theory. Afterwards, with the development of Demonstration Group, with the representatives such as Dai Zhen, Duan Yucai, Ma Zhenchen, Jiao Duan, Hu Chenggong, and Suspicion Groups with the representatives such as Yao Jiheng, Cui Shu, Fang Yurun, Zhu' lascivious poetry theory had received an extensive suspicion, which became the focus of disputes among the theories of The Book of Songs in Han and Song Dynasty.
