A Study On The Relationship Of Attachment To Social Anxiety Among Adolescents

Adolescence is an extremely important and ever-changing stage in an individual life,and during this period social intercourse is highly significant for the sound development of personality and the successful realization of socialization.Researches has indicated that social anxiety is a common psychological problem which influences the social intercourse of adolescents,but so far,few people in academic world has explored the problem of adolescent social anxiety from the relationship between teenagers and their parents,and between teenagers and their peers.From the angle of adolescent attachment,this study attempts to probe into the influences that adolescent attachment exerts upon the social anxiety.The preliminary conclusions are listed below:1.The translated and revised Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescence which has good validity and reliability and accords with the demands of psychology testing theory can be used as a tool for measuring the social anxiety of adolescents.2.Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescence can be divided into three dimensions: Fear of Negative Evaluation(FNE);Social Avoidance and Distress in New Situations (SAD-N);Social Avoidance and Distress-General(SAD-G.)3.On the issue of social anxiety,adolescents are healthy as a whole.The scores of three dimensions were in turn:SAD-N＞FNE＞SAD-G.4.On the issue of social anxiety of adolescents,there are gender difference,grade difference,and the difference between urban and rural areas:the score of female students' FNE is obviously higher than that of the male students';the score of male students' SAD-G is remarkably higher than that of the female students';the scores of rural teenagers are higher than that of urban teenagers on each dimension.5.Differences exist in adolescents' mother attachment,father attachment and peer attachment:for male students',mother attachment is remarkably stronger than peer attachment,but the difference between their mother attachment and peer attachment is not remarkable;for female students,peer attachment＞mother attachment＞father attachment.6.The level of adolescents' attachment to parents with opposite gender declines curvilinearly,and the same gender gradually.7.Female students' peer attachment is obviously stronger than that of male students.8.Adolescent attachment can predict the occurrence of social anxiety and its extent.The negative correlation between adolescent attachments and adolescent social anxiety is very prominent,especially,some factors,such as maternal alienation, paternal trust,peer alienation and peer trust are of vital importance in forecasting the adolescent social anxiety.
