On The Irony Art Of MoYan's Novels

The irony is regarded as a kind of important concept, it always demonstrates the superficial false appearance and the essential real contradiction ,and it is a important rhetoric skill and narrative method in the novel. It often expresses contradiction and absurd especially in the language, the plot, the form, the character, even the main thought to deep influence, and can shaping the character , affording for thought in history,culture and showing the author's emotional attitude.MoYan is regarded as a famous novelist in our country. His novels provided us a vivid panorama including politics , culture ,custom , history, etc. Irony is a notable characteristic of his novels because he always demonstrate the contradiction and absurd in history, human nature and social reality with unique angle of view and special language . Irony is penetrated every aspect of MoYan's works , from the diction, the angle of view to the structural design. It is a framework in which his apperceives the world and expresses the emotion. However , the scholars and papers study MoYan's novels are quite few in the view of irony and it's unsystematic and incomplete.Based on much reading and experience , this thesis take"irony"as an angle of view to study MoYan's novels, combines irony with his novels, with the theory controls the text and by text support theory. Through deep discussion into concept of irony, much study on text, serious exploring into novels, I want to analyzes MoYan's novels with irony narrative completely and systematically. This thesis falls into three parts:In the first part of the thesis , I give an systemic exploring into irony from ancient time till now .And then make clear historic changes of meaning and extension about the irony concept. The concept of irony's evolves is mainly divided into three stages: In the first stage, it's a skill about debate and rhetoric in the ancient Greece and the ancient Rome. Its basic meaning of this statement is intended to express the opposite meaning. In the second stage ,this concept has the philosophy significance, it become a essential method to understanding the contradictory world .In the third stage ,this concept become a principle about poetry structure .In my opinion , the irony have two basic stable essential factor which is paradox (surface layer speech morphology and author original intention paradox or false representation and latent real paradox)and comparison(the comparison between the speech way and the author original intention's comparison or the false representation and the latent real). In my opinion, irony is the paradox factors of various contradictions, conflicts, confrontations and balance and the surface meaning and in-depth true meaning are inconsistent. This surface meaning and in-depth true meaning's comparison will produce irony effect. At the same time, I will explant the conception about rhetoric irony, angle of view irony, structure irony and parody irony. I will elaborate it in my thesis .In the second part of the thesis, I would expound MoYan's novels from rhetoric. This part focuses on the rhetoric about the variety and originality of rhetoric system in his novels. Causes the reader extricates from the traditional esthetic way and the customary rules. The language irony (including three perspectives of narration language irony , making serious matter lightly, but readers to know its seriousness .With a serious attitude, saying the deliberate very strong, in fact refers to the opposite meaning. Making the word change stylistic to express the author's real attitude) is the most common form of irony in his works. At the same time, he always expound the rhetoric with morals like imagery and metaphor to enrich the connotation of the text.In the third part of the thesis, I will expound the principle with narrative irony .It involves novel's perspective, structure, plot and the clues start, materials and other aspects of the organization of contradictions, conflicts and Paradox. MoYan always use this way. He always using three major narrative irony forms. Angle of view is the first form. He use of children, animal and even idiots such as specific point of view to express his profound meaning of irony. Structure irony is the second form and it's external morphology about the novel. MoYan setting the contrast especially in launching the plot , organizing material and setting clue. Structure irony is more Integrity and confidentiality. The reader can comprehend its profound meaning if they can experience in depth. MoYan always make the contradictory nature thing compound and comparison. At last , he apply the parody , which is an ironic composing mode, in order to overwhelm, criticize and deny the authoritative utterance and traditional context. This thesis elaborates the existence condition of this mode by analyzing MoYan's novels .The conclusion part clarifies the reason of MoYan choose irony as a form of rhetoric and narrative means. The unique critical, subversive spirit of irony fit the changing world's reality that prompte he use this method . Therefore, ironic narration of the novel is not only the external form, but also the essence of expression.The transformation time give people strong pressure and causes the main body loses, the human nature was disassimilated , the national's incorrigibility , the conception of history and values being at a loss. MoYan has also taken the form of irony to revealed in the plight of survival, the sink of Idealism and heroism, To historical prior principle doubts and to traditional ideas reconsideration. Generally speaking, the concept of irony has many shortages, but it is a extremely good narrative type to explain modern living problem, MoYan also like use it to be an art of fiction and a means of express his attitudes.
