Textbook as the represent of overall plan and evidence of class teaching and test plays an important role in the four steps of whole teaching process of Chinese to foreigners. Textbook is also the evidence that the students and teachers should abide by, which represents the two fundamental sides of teaching Chinese to foreigners: what to teach and how to teach. Therefore, it is absolutely significant to study the compiling of the textbooks of teaching Chinese to foreigners. When facing the two sets of textbooks (JINGMAO QIATAN ABC and SHANGWU HANYU), we can't helping but pondering what are the differences between them in terms of compiling theory, contents of texts, new words, grammatical points, exercises and what kind of experiences and lessons we can draw from them. Nevertheless, so far, the thesis author hasn't found any articles concerning about the comparative study of the two. This thesis focuses on the comparative and exhaustive study of the various aspects concerning compiling theory, contents of texts, new words, etc. Based on the research carried out in this thesis, experiences, as well as lessons can be drawn to provide reference for latter compliers and to promote the development of the cause of Chinese teaching to foreigners.Generally speaking, compared to SHANGWU HANYU, JINGMAO QIATAN ABC is more optimizing and scientific and has better quality. Therefore it has been more popular and widely accepted by the teachers and students, although it can't be recommended as the perfect epoch-making textbook. To compile the new and ideal textbook for teaching Chinese to foreigners, we still have a long way to go.
