Relationship Between Politics And Religion Of The Soviet Union During Khrushchev And Brezhnev Administration

Religion, Orthodox Church in particular, was hard attacked by the large-scale and much influential anti-religion campaign in the Khrushchev administration. The attack was going on during the Brezhnev administration. However, the relationship between Orthodox Church and the regime during both periods was in a state of tension combined with relaxation.The thesis consists of introduction, body and conclusion.In the introduction,the contemporary research at home and abroad and the definition of the basic concepts are introduced.In the main body, first there relates the general situation of relationship between politics and religion in Russian history, relationship between Orthodox Church and Russian people, and management policy on religion during the Lenin and Stalin administration.Second there's an analysis of the relationship between Orthodox Church and the regime from the angles of the situation of Orthodox Church,the management policy on religion and the anti-religion campaign during the Khrushchev administration.Third there introduces the relationship between Orthodox Church and the regime during the Brezhnev administration and analyzes the changes of and reasons for management policy on religion.A conclusion was drawn at last that Khrushchev exerted a forcing and strong arm on religion while Brezhnev mainly relied on law. On the surface, anti-religion campaign mostly took place in the Khrushchev administration, but actually it also existed in Brezhnev's reign when Orthodox Church was still under attack simply that Brezhnev learned the lesson from Khrushchev's case and didn't launch a large-scale mass campaign against Orthodox Church. The actions of all sorts during the Khrushchev and Brezhnev administration could be used for reference for other nations.
