Double Discipline Of Religion And Politics

After the fall of northeast China,the puppet government maintained strict controls over all kinds of religious organizations, and turn them into service to Japan’s colonial rule.The particularity of the Catholic church is quite in these religions. In the consideration of the interests of the missionary work,Roman Catholic church sent a senior representative to the puppet Manchukuo and made it a fact that Roman acknowledged the puppet Manchukuo regime.Thus,the northeast Catholic church parish declared its independence from China.While promoting the missionary,the special relationship between church and state put a large amount of content of political indoctrination to the Catholic,and made it forced to double by the religious and political discipline.Based on the Catholic periodical of Manchukuo church of monthly as core journal and supplemented by other documents,the paper tries to explore the process and performance of politicized religion,to reveal how religion and politics multiple intertwined in a high-pressure environment. In this paper, I will analyze how the the Catholic church double indoctrination in politics and religion from three levels variation of spiritual lessons, etiquette and education.First of all, the Catholic church,adhering to the puppet government,directly advocated the indoctrination of "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere"and "king Promised Land"in the church publications and various kinds of religious occasions.The church devoted itself to cultivate "new citizens"moral image of the puppet,and defend the legitimacy of the puppet government regime.Secondly, the various of the Catholic church ceremony acted as a puppet state of colonial education platform.Through the church leaders’ political consciousness and the direct involvement of the puppet government, the church ceremony was embedded in a large number of political discipline,making it a medium of promoting political consciousness of the puppet.Again, the puppet government put strong power to control and transform the Catholic education career,and church schools were forced into the national education system, developing "the king children"with the puppet through which various forms of consciousness penetration.Meanwhile,the Catholic church conducted the slave ideology to church’s education practice forwardly,changing the purpose of the church education quite.All the facts show that the Catholic church during the period of the puppet has took the way to cater to the puppet government’s propaganda, descended to the colonial propaganda and education tool of Japan.The emergence of this situation is the result of the high pressure regime politics, but also the reasons that the Catholic church catered to the puppet for the interests of missionary.The church melted the religion and politics together,constituting the double discipline to believers,and the religious thought was covered with a thick layer of politics.The Catholic church’s behavior deviated from the religious moral principle of justice, not only hurt Chinese believers’ national feelings, but also brought them mental confusion. Beyond all question,the political indoctrination finally ended in failure with Japan’s downfall.
