Personally speaking, Lawrence displays strong redemption consciousness in his work, which is structured in Lawrence's novels in order to treat and cure the illness of human nature. The attention on redemption consciousness will be instrumental to the profound understanding of D.H.Lawrence.The base of the argument is Lawrence's moral tendency from his novels. D.H. Lawrence ascribes the problems from inner society and human being to ethics in his time and turns to his individual moral standards for solution. The objective of the thesis is Lawrence's four great novels: Sons and lovers, Women in love, The Rainbow, and Lady Chatterley's love. On basis of Lawrence's work, the thesis tries to interpret the texts, analyzes Lawrence's redemption consciousness and gets a conclusion. In speaking of Lawrence's redemption consciousness, the thesis is divided to three chapters. With the text-perusal as the first chapters, this layer deduces Lawrence's comprehensive texts in three problems: family, sexuality and society, which demonstrated the destroyed perspective in Lawrence's work. The second chapter, as the core part of the whole thesis, concentrates on the ideal of redemption. Under the real circumstance, Lawrence employs different methods to treat and cure the illness of three aspects. The layers of these methods and the relationship among the methods are discussed in this chapter. In addition, the thesis re-explores critical points in the field of the criticism, explaining some problems from appearance to inner substance, from the phenomenon to essence.
