As a vital part of language, proverbs characterized with their specific brevity, humor and wisdom show great charm. Most of them originate from the experiences of ordinary people and are handed down in oral or written form from generation to generation. Plenty of cultural images embodied in proverbs have been getting in the way of translating proverbs because of the differences in history, society, ethics, belief, custom and thinking mode, which are reflected in cultural images. The problem which strategy can convey the cultural factors better has existed in translation field for a long time.At present, translation studies are closely associated with the development of other subjects and have been keeping assimilating nutriment from other scientific theories. The combination of theories from different fields facilitates the establishment of translation. Pragmatist Verschueren puts forwards a new perspective of language use in his new book Understanding Pragmatics. He assumes that using language is the continuous making of linguistic choices made by a language user. Dynamics of adaptability is the core of the theory. Dynamics of adaptability in making choices can be embodied from three particularly salient factors: the temporal dimension; dynamics and context; dynamics and structures. This thesis attempts to apply Verschueren's dynamics to translating cultural images in Chinese and English proverbs from the three particularly salient factors: the temporal dimension, dynamics and context, dynamics and structures respectively.
