Studies On Jiangnan Tidu In Late Qing

The Green Camp was the national army of the Qing Dynasty, theJiangnan Tidu was the most distinguished official who specially administeredmilitary of the Green Camp in Jiangnan. This article attempts to combine thefiles, the official records, the biographies, the notes and the choreographiestogether, and takes the evolution, the activities and the characteristics of theJiangnan Tidu in Late Qing as the principal objects for studying. And also itputs emphasis on the group researches of twenty-three Jiangnan Tidu,including the vicegerents as well. Through these, we hope that we can getdeeper understanding of their features in the history of Late Qing.The evolution of its initiation, adjustment, and ultimate establishmentunderwent a complex procedure. During that time, there was TaipingRebellion which lasted more than ten years at home, and in abroad theimperialists invaded China continuously. The Jiangnan Tidu in Late Qingplayed an important role in many aspects: such as resisting aggressors,constructing coast defense, suppressing Taiping Rebellion, preserving localorders and so on. Compared with the precious Jiangnan Tidu in Qing Dynasty,the ones in Late Qing appeared numerous characteristics of "factiontendency". There were lots of reasons for this, but this article only analyzedthe relationship between the Jiangnan Tidu and the Liangjiang governor. Thestudy of Jiangnan Tidu can help us to cognize the group characteristics morecomprehensively, to master the era peculiarity more deeply and therefore tofill up the vacancy in former researches.
