The Study On The Decorative Language Of The Dunhuang Murals

Dunhuang Art reflects the history of the fine arts of the middle ages in China. There are splendid murals and painted sculptures in the Dunhuang Grottoes. Especially Dunhuang murals covered large range of the knowledge and had their unique artistic styles. It also has brilliant decorative designs and conveys rich culture information. And it absorbs the different culture essence of the western minorities. So the Dunhuang Murals, based on its native cultures and absorbed the Han Cultures of the Upper and Middle area of Yellow River, created the remarkable artistic treasures with the unique minorities characteristics and style at that age. In recent years, most of learners just put their studies on the painting, artistic features of the painted sculptures and Dunhuang literatures of Dunhuang art. But they did less research on analysis and generalization of the origin and the historic cultural sources of decorative language of Dunhuang murals, which is a pity on the research of Dunhuang art and also a big motivation for the writer to do some research work.This paper probes the artistic style of Dunhuang murals. Based on the studies above, the wrier made a detailed analysis on the decorative language of Dunhuang murals with its unique oriental characteristics. Moreover, the writer attempts to, from the perspective of the Chinese cultures, discuss the sources and origins of decorative language, fully discover the design artistic essences from Dunhuang art treasuries and make a strong research basis for the modern art and design.
