A Study On The Artistic Features And Application Of The Ceiling Patterns Of Xixia Grottoes In Dunhuang

The area of the Dunhuang decorative patterns in the Xixia Dynasty reached the largest in the caves of the previous dynasties.The Ceiling pattern not only inherited the architecture painting patterns of the Song Dynasty,but also integrated into the artistic characteristics of Tibetan Buddhism.This article divides the Ceiling patterns of Xixia Grottoes in Dunhuang into six categories based on the subject matter content.Although similar caves have the same artistic themes,each cave has its own unique novelty and ingenuity.Through the study of the development and evolution of these Ceiling patterns,we can also see Xixia’s tolerance towards art and the phenomenon of cultural exchanges between various ethnic groups at that time.The research in this article believes that the Ceiling pattern of the Xixia Grottoes in Dunhuang not only spreads the Buddhist teachings in a symbolic way,but also has a strong decorative features.This kind of decoration is manifested in: exaggerated and deformed artistic techniques in modeling;symmetrical and balanced formal rules in composition;emphasis on rhythm and cadence in layout to give the picture a sense of freedom and agility;Artistic color scheme that learning Tibetan Buddhist Art is mainly blue and green.At the same time,the technique of depositing gold is used to decorate the caves magnificently.This strong decoration is closely related to the aesthetic interest of modern decorative art.This article analyzes the expression methods and expression forms of the innovative application of the Ceiling pattern,and further excavates the aesthetic and cultural value of the Ceiling pattern in the modern decorative art.In the practice creation part,the author uses the artistic technique of decomposition and reconstruction to recreate the Ceiling pattern in Dunhuang Xixia Grottoes,and incorporates popular color matching and expression forms,so that the traditional Ceiling pattern is more in line with modern aesthetic fashion.And then makes the unique art form of Ceiling pattern has been passed down in the lives of modern people,showing its brilliance.The application of the Ceiling pattern of the Dunhuang Xixia Grottoes in modern decorative art not only enriches the subject and form of modern decorative art,but also enables the excellent culture and art of Xixia in China to rejuvenate.
