| There stood parallel Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism in ancient Chinese ideological fields and their reflection in art world were royal palace paintings, literator paintings and religious frescos respectively. In all religious paintings Dunhuang frescoes were undoubtedly the most classical and representative art works of profound significance. In Dunhuang Grottoes the roles played by frescoes were of decoration for their constructions and sculptures, however, with massive numbers and of top artistic technique and rich contents they amount to being nicknamed as 'the largest art museum' nowadays in the world. Dunhuang frescoes were art works generated by emerged Buddhism and Taoism - an introduced religion with the traditional Chinese philosophy. In the long process in which Chinese art characteristics was formed outlandish arts had been absorbed and Dunhuang frescoes, in form of Buddhist art, are models of emerged Chinese and Western painting, which in turn, showed clearly the routes how a nation digested and absorbed foreign culture in forging its own national artistic form and characteristics. The paper believes that Dunhuang frescoes' artistic values are of rich scholastic contents including their topics, images and color. From angle of art modeling and by making analysis on topics, artistic methods and technique, evolution of artistic styles, color languages and materials,etc. the paper expiates on Dunhuang frescoes' illuminating significance to modern fresco creation. |
