Zhang Ailing is a controversial authoress in the history of Chinese modern literature. With a perspective of history, the paper tries to focus on the two years, from July 1943 to August 1945, when Zhang Ailing became popular so quickly in Shanghai, to narrate the phenomena of Zhang Ailing's popularity and to analyse the reasons of Zhang Ailing's popularity. The author will judge whether Zhang Ailing is a Culture Traitor or not by revealing those reasons. The paper consists of three parts :1,the phenomena of Zhang Ailing's popularity; 2,the reasons of Zhang Ailing's popularity; 3,the impacts of Zhang Ailing's popularity. Above-mentioned investigation aims at providing some references for evaluating Zhang Ailing objectively in politics.
