In this thesis, the author first introduces the definition of processing capacity and its three forms by Professor Daniel Gile and the process of consecutive interpretation by Professor Liu Minghua. On the basis of their theories, the author makes a brief empirical study on the notes and performance of four interpreters for a Chinese- English interpretation. By comparing their notes and performances, the author gives some of his advice on the note-taking skills applied with the processing capacity theory in terms of the characters used, the language used, the methods used on numbers, the symbols and abbreviation used and the format of the notes respectively. In closing, the author reached his conclusion: Note taking skills are highly individualized and do not have a set of fixed concrete rules. However, the basic principle still exists, i.e. not to waste processing capacity or tries to save as much processing capacity as possible.
