The study of historical novels in Ming and Qing Dynasties poses as a key component in the history of Chinese literary. The overall characterization, subjects classification, and art-style analysis of the study of historical novels are relatively comprehensive and matured. Nonetheless, too much attention was paid on that of Ming and Qing Dynasties, while most people just turned a blind eye to masterpieces out of the two dynasties. This thesis, however, tends to study the unattractive masterpiece "Pop Historical Novel in Xi Han Dynasty", a pop historical novel written by Zen Wei of Ming Dynasty, in the period of Emperor Wanli. It analyzes the trend thought of the time; absorbs ideas from related works, original information, and historical documents; clarifies the development trend of historical novels in the early Xi Han Dynasty; penetrates into original sense of the Author, Zen Wei. It not only induces the characteristics on the narration and figure-carving of the masterpiece, but also reveals its limitations as a masterpiece. In this way, the thesis appraises the understanding and literary value of the masterpiece, which provides a positive instruction to the case study of historical novels in Ming Dynasty.
