Nowadays there is still few research available on the piano arrangements. In this thesis, the author discusses the piano arrangements from Baroque to Contemporary according to the sound, harmony, material and structure in many details. Meanwhile this thesis also aims to compare many different arrangements of the same work which are composed by different composers in according to the theory of "reorganization". By analyzing and dissecting each aspect of the original works and their arrangements, the author attempts to demonstrate the composer's creative thought. Furthermore the author also aims to delve deeply into the origin, context, development and significance of transcriptions for the piano. As far as the performance of the arrangements is concerned, the analysis of the timbre, technique, and genre could hopefully provide meaningful instructions for the performers.In a word, the most important element of transcriptions for the piano is its "reorganizativity." The transcriptions gain new life when the composer reorganizing the elements of sound, rhythm, texture, harmony, material, organization and structure. Therefore, the transcriptions for the piano have their board space of performance because of their abundant "reorganizativity". It will play a significant role in accelerating the development of the piano art.
