An overall reform and opening took place over mainland China in the 1980s when various new thoughts constantly flowed inwards. The entertainment of movie and TV constituted an important part of the then China's social panorama. It has enriched people's life and affected their costumes as well, which, in turn, imparted new content to China's traditional fashion culture consciousness. With the aid of the boom in people's imitating characters'costumes on movie and TV screen, the thesis analyzes the relationship between characters'costumes and people's daily dress, and movie and TV culture transmission and fashion popularity based on China's social, cultural, costume setting and, movie and TV condition in the 80s. By means of the peripheral disciplines, the research focuses on the analysis and generalization of the correlation between movie and TV arts and fashion arts. As an indispensable transition in China's modern fashion development, the 80s is a time when China's costume made its way from the national isolation to the international integration, and the tradition to the modern age. Hence the purpose of the study is to explore deeply and painstakingly into the costume history of the 80s from a new perspective. In terms of research methodology, such methods of traditional humanities as summarization, analysis, generalization, deduction, argumentation, etc. are adopted with special emphasis on facts support, comparison of cases, and literature review after the presentation of the argument.
