However, there are no existing researches about Shanghai female movie stars’ costume image during the Republic Period.This thesis studies the costume of female movie stars in Shanghai during the Republic Period. At first, it needs to collect costume information about female movie stars, and then use a variety of methods such as the comparative research, inferred analysis, analysis and integration. It is mainly to achieve three objectives:first, by searching for the Republican Shanghai female movie stars dress image-related information, classification, sorting, analyzing the features of female movie stars in Shanghai during Republic Period. It will make a supplemental study for the Republican female costume image. Second, through the analysis of female movie stars major apparel category and the overall image in Shanghai during the Republic Period, costumes image characteristics of female movie stars’ rheological trends and typical character can be summarized. Third, the thesis explores the interaction between the costume image of Shanghai female movie stars during the Republic Period and social culture during the Republic Period.Through the research of female movie stars’ costume in Shanghai during the Republic Period, there are some conclusions as below: 1. The Republic of China is an important period which is strongly affected by the west. With the development of film industry, female movie stars had become the representative of fashion, their dressing style had the character of representativeness and epidemicity.2. The costume style of female movie stars during the Republic Period mainly includes two abstemious clothing, cheongsam waistcoat, cheongsam and western-style clothing. In the early1920s, female movie stars mainly dressed two abstemious clothing. In the late1920s, cheongsam vest became the mainstream. Entering into the1930s, cheongsam overwhelmingly become the most popular costume used by female movie stars. With the influx of western-style clothing, Chinese-style clothing affected by the western style began to make improvements which led to the perfect fusion of Chinese and western clothing.3. Accessories of female movie stars in Republican Shanghai were mainly western style. It played an irreplaceable role for female movie stars in shaping fashionable style characteristic.4.
