Research On High School Students Emotional Intelligence And The Relation Between Emotional Intelligence And Mental Health

Since the 1990s the "emotional intelligence" concept has generated, the importance of emotional intelligence to the growth and success has increasing concern by people in general. On the basis of the research of predecessors , the study organize a questionnaire about high school students'emotional intelligence, with the organized questionnaires, explore the students'emotional intelligence differences in the various background variables. Moreover, the relations between emotional intelligence and mental health is researched. Through analysis and discussion, the main conclusions of this study are as follows :(1) high school students'emotional intelligence is a two level structure of eight factors, eight factors : the ability of experiencing our own emotion, the ability of cogniting our own emotion, the ability of controlling over our own emotion ,the ability of expressing our own emotion;the ability of observing other's emotion, the ability of cogniting other's emotion, the ability of controlling over other's emotion ,the ability of expressing other's emotion. The eight factors were grouped into two second derivative surface : for the first four factors in "self focus" (the ability to handle our own emotion), after four factors categorized as "other realms" (the ability of dealing with others emotion).(2) there are gender differences in students emotional intelligence, boys emotional intelligence significantly better than girls.(3) there are grade differences in students emotional intelligence, junior high school students emotional intelligence significantly better than senior high school students.(4) different birth place to the students emotional intelligence differences, and the differences in emotional intelligence mainly come from the city and rural students,city and urban students.(5) Only-child of middle school students and non-only-child emotional intelligence differences, the only-child students emotional intelligence significantly better than non-only-child students.
