There are a great deal of movie advertisement on the news papers in the period of Republic of China, which is a big resouce for today's study of movie situation at that time. Just taking advantage of living in Chongqing and being able to read those valuable newspapers, the dissertation selects several important newspapers to collect, arrange and analyse the movie advertisement on them in the purpose of having a total look of the film promotion at that time including promotion means, promotion methods and promotion planning. That can be served as a necessary supplement to fill up the history at that special peroid.This essay selects five news papers which can represent that time for study. They are: Central Daily, Sinhua Daily, Takung Pao, Xinshu News and Business Daily, which are selected from December 1938 to April 1946, including 12991 pieces of newspapers. And this paper consists of nine parts:The introduction discusses the purpose and significance of this dissertation and the general situation of the newapapers. The following three parts introduces and analyses the movie advertisement on the above newspapers respectively on the aspects of movie category, form, key points and publising methods. The seventh part makes a case study on the problem of film promotion reflected on some movies during that time. The eighth part focuses on the Russian movie promotion; The ninth part deals with the pictures produced by Central Film Shooting Factory and China Film Production Factory. The last part emphases on a special promotion phenomenon that are intensely new to readers and experts.There are about fifty pictures in this dissertation and there is also enclosed a pictograph in the end of the paper from 1939 to 1945 about the films showing in the cinemas. All the materials in this dissertation is first-handed.
