After the Opium War,the media industry developed rapidly.Presswere important testimony of politics,economy and culture throughout the Republic of China.Yue opera has been prospering in Shanghai in this period,which made the mass media pay attention to it.The emergence of the Yue Opera newspapers and periodicals was the product of the prosperity of the recreational market at that time,and also was the concentrated expression of the significance of the development of the drama in the media.Therefore,the thesis takes the special newspapers and periodicals in the Republic of China of Yue Opera as the researchobject.Through sorting out,summarizing and studying,we strive to conclude the history of the publication,the characteristics and the rolesplaying in the development of Yueopera in a comparative perspective.Furthermore,we could explore the historical value in such press,with a view to complement the history of Yue Opera.The thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter tries to summarize the background of the Yue Opera newspapers and periodicals.The mature development of the Shanghai newspaper industry,the establishment of the mass entertainment mechanism and the appeal of the Yue Opera audience were the main motive force for their development.As for the creation of the Yue Opera press,Shanghai was already one of the news centers in the world.There were close links between the press and the art market.At the same time,the urban entertainment business system has been established,press and all kinds of drama were included,which means it was necessary to follow the entertainment mechanism for development.And the Yue Opera audience was a powerful promotor of the special newspapers and periodicals,because they had different levels of appeal to express their views.The second chapter introduces the general situation of the existing Yue Opera newspapers and periodicals.Summarizing the development process,summing up the characteristics of the sections,exploring the significance and trying to analyze the historical changes of the Yue Opera press in the Republic of China period.And then,through the analysis of the founders,the purpose of the founding,and the sections,we try to present the appearance of the newspapers and magazines of the Republic of ChinaThe third and the fourth chapter mainly extract relevant historical materials from Yue Opera newspapers and periodicals,which are used to review the performance and survival of the Yue opera in the Republic of China.The third chapter mainly explore the playwriting and performing arts of Yue opera in 1939 to 1949.During the Republic of China,the characteristics of the Yue opera play were:the popularity of continuous opera,the frequent performance,and the wide selection of materials Accompanied by the development of the performing arts and the enhancement of the ideological connotation.In addition,on the basis of press,summing up the performance art,stage arrangement and music of Yue Opera in order to grasp the aesthetic psychologyThe fourth chapter mainly looks at the living conditions of Yue Opera at the time from the Yue Opera newspapers and periodicals.Extracting historical materials from newspapers and periodicals to restore the life of actresses,the composition opera troupes and theatres.Further,we could realize the status and values of Yue opera in social life and women’s activities.
