| In western academe of history, L. S. Stavrianos is one of the representatives of the Global view of history, while in China, Wu Yujin is the founder of the Holistic view of world history. These two kinds of view of world history share many similarities, since they both regard world history as a organic whole, rather than the hodgepodge of histories of regions, nations and specialism, and both of them believe that world history is made up of these historical movements which had international influence. Stavrianos regarded "accessibility" as the essential factor of human's progress. Wu Yujin considered the process of world history can be divided from two perspectives: lengthways development and transverse development, which based on material production and are finally driven by it. They take the 1500 AD and 15-16th century respectively as the basic historical points of phases division. They have many similar viewpoints on the issues such as agricultural and nomadic world in the ancient and mediaeval world history, the industrial world and the rise of western world in modern world history. Meanwhile, on the basis of their predecessors, they criticize the Euro-Centrism respectively and make a breakthrough. However, Stavrianos had not gotten rid of the influence of the Euro-Centrism thoroughly. In conclusion, no matter the Global view of history by Stavrianos or the Holistic view of world history by Wu Yujin, both of these two views of history provide us many precious inspirations about the development of theory and practice of world history and the construction of this subject. |
