This historical ethnography mainly discussed three anti-Christianity movements in the modern history of Wenzhou. It represented how Christianity existed in local society in this era. We generalized it as "the difference of Chinese and barbarian"(hua yi zhi bian), "the discrepancy within the country"( hai nei zhi bian), and "the nation-state"( min zu guo jia) corresponding to three periods. It also demonstrated changes of the local society and the state order when we explored Christianity history. We analyzed the discrepancy of the local and state in the transforms and the structural traits it came into being. Furthermore, we reflected the issue of indigenization. As devotion in the study of China Christianity, this thesis suggested a new angle. Christianity is not an entity which has exact meaning. We must connect it with concrete local social processes, and at the same time, the study of Christianity can extend to broader discussion of our society.
