Before 1925, the activity had made progress in preaching of Christianity in Sichuan. But as a series of incidents with "nationalism" nature in the 1920s recurs, Sichuan Christianity has been involved in the swirl of "impacting" more frequently. Though Sichuan was partly prevented being permeated from outside strength due to the inland geographical position and unique defending areas political system, it still couldn't flee the influence of nationalism and become the real "alien land " in the 1920s. A series of incidents with nationalistic colors, such as Anti-Christianity Movement, May Thirtieth Incident in Shanghai, Wanhsien Incident, Regain the concession of Hankow and Jiujiang, Nanjing Incident, forced Christianity to meet the challenge of nationalism. From the development summit of 1925 to the withdrawing of most missionaries from Sichuan in 1927, Sichuan Christianity had encountered another "crisis" after the Boxer incident in 1900.The author thinks Anti-Christianity Movement was launched mainly in the area of midstream and downstream of Yangtze River. As for the upper reaches of Yangtze River, there were different patterns in Anti-Christianity Movement. In this thesis, the author regards Sichuan as the researching object and analyzes the missionary's concrete experience and historical context in the 1920s by the relevant study on TheWest China Missionary News established by the missionaries in Chengdu. On the basis of the unique experience of the westerns in Sichuan in the 1920s, the author discusses the following questions: Firstly, the difference between the historical incident and the historical existing as experience; Secondly, the problem of participation of the personal experience in the historical process; Thirdly, how does the concrete historical context construct their personal experience?Different from the strong challenge caused by the Anti-Christianity Movement in the East China, the missionaries of Sichuan were like a calm onlooker much more. Though the atmosphere made the westerns in Sichuan nervous, in the relatively peaceful environment of Sichuan, those tense atmospheres seems still just as their observational object. In this background, as far as the response to regaining educational rights and indigenization was concerned, the internal approach from the Christian Churches and the missionary's local knowledge seems to have a more important influence on this response. While churches drafted concrete strategy and carried on the work, this kind of inclination was more obvious. To a certain extent, the missionary's local knowledge impacted on the historical process. At the same time, the local knowledge with concretization and one-sidedness decided the variety of incident.
