The Chinese characters' kind, characteristics is a basic theories problem within Chinese characters research, and is also concerned by modern Chinese characters' study. Current academic circles return to disagree seriously to modern Chinese characters, the Chinese characters cognition still need to enhance. The radical is a part of Chinese characters' forms, this article aims to investigate the development of the radicals, to study the characters' characteristic that is reflected by this phenomenon, so as to testify the marked is the Chinese characters' important characteristic.First, the article looks back to evaluation Chinese characters since near modern. In ancient Chinese society, the Chinese characters possess the high position, and suffer the adoration of the totem type. With the progress of time, the scholars reevaluated the Chinese characters, through the Qieyinzi movement in near modern, the theory of Chinese characters' revolution, the conclusions are more scientific and dialectical now. But the beautification of Chinese characters, the standpoint of that the Chinese characters is superior sometimes emergence. The problems such as the indication of the characters, the degree of Chinese characters' difficulty are always debating. Now, on the characters' cognition, there are a great part of articles still have more sense perceptions than scientific, more emotional than scientific. The Chinese characters still need to scientific recognize.The forms is the Chinese characters' essence, to research Chinese characters must regard forms as the center, and must study its total regulation on the foundation that individual research. The radical is a part of the Chinese characters' forms, which is founded by Xu-shen when he compiled the Shuowen Jiezi . Since the 540 radicals of Shuowen are founded according to seal characters' forms, they are consistently with the components of the forms, and also have certain relations with the Chinese characters' meanings. Most radicals of Shuowen are the pictographic elements that indicate a general category of meaning. For the Chinese characters changed from seal characters, official scripts into regular scripts, the forms are changed a lot. Lots of pictographic elements are completely disfigured. Conformed to the fact of Chinese characters' forms, it is necessary to revise the radicals. The development of radicals conversely reflects the changes of Chinese characters' characteristics. The Advanced Dictionary of Chinese is the compilation of Chinese characters' regular scripts. In order to reflect the total historical development of the Chinese characters' forms, it includes the oracle-bone inscriptions, the inscription on ancient bronze objects, seal characters, official scripts, and is regarded as the highest quality in large dictionary at present. The article selects the radicals of Shuowen Jiezi to compared with the radicals of the Advanced Chinese Dictionary, mainly investigates how reclassify the characters,obtains the analysis of radicals' incorporation and deviancy. Then, the article puts forward the evolutionary regularity that is drawn from 4 aspects: incorporation, deviancy, confusion and the new radicals. On the basis of these, the article analyses the reasons of the radicals' evolution. There are two mainly reasons. On the one hand, the relation between the Chinese characters' form and meaning become estranged, we often can't change the form into meaning correctly. It is difficult to reclassify the Chinese characters according to the meanings; on the other hand, the Chinese characters' forms are evolved. After transformation, component and erroneous change in form, to classify the Chinese characters has to depend on the forms. In the light of the aforesaid two reasons, the radicals' kind is changed.The sign means the symbol that has no relation with its pronunciation, meaning or has indefinite meanings.
