Imagination as a media between conception and phenomenon is a kind of comprehensive competence of subject. Imagination makes conception and phenomenon combined together and makes the possibility of knowledge got from experience become realistic in description in poetry. Imagination abounds in creativity. Its special characteristic is irregular or free. The free implementation of imagination competence makes art figures mimic. Without imagination competence, art figures created are only something that have no soul in them. Based on the range, direction and emphases of imagination competence, the imagination competence of poets can be put into three categories. The first one is transition from one object to another. The second is making human beings' mood visualized. The third is the description of super-realistic and non-existent scenery in imagination. Judged from the creation, combination and reception of poetry image, it is impossible to go on art creation without imagination.The Tang Dynasty is one time when the imagination of poets shows to be greatly brilliant. In the aspects of art imagination, people in Tang Dynasty received some achievements: 1. covering broadly; 2. comprehending deeply. Their imagination moves about freely and reaches everywhere. Manner of feeling of the people in the early Tang Dynasty is natural and firm, such as Zhang Ruoxu's Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye, in which the strong affection and the hollow poetic condition are accord with the early Tang people's aesthetic taste and artistic sentiment. The followings are some characteristics of imagination of poets of the early-staged Tang Dynasty:keeping remains of manners of thinking from Qi and Liang Dynasty, which is easy-going and modest style pursued hardly, moreover, still filled with palace manner in the Qi and Liang Dynasty.2. basing on the reality with ardor, looking back the days of fighting in battlefield, expressing heroically their ambition of making contributions for their own country.3. being high-spirited, keeping clear understanding of reality and persisting to pursue their ideal.4. being natural and simple, having true feeling and looking forward to the future.Tang's empire was recreated and recuperated hardly by generations, and reached the height in the opening years of Xuan Zong. Li Bai had a mysterious family history and background, was homeless in his whole life and his free and unlimited character, which attributes to his wonderful and baseless imagination. He described the life of gods as if his own experience, related to his converting into Tao. In his poems he disregards inflexibly the merit and fame, which is related to his exalted sense and confidence given by his status of royal descendant. He thinks outstandingly, and he is a good embodiment of enterprising spirits and breadth of mind belonging to people in Tang Dynasty. There are few reasonable things in his flowing of thought.Three aspects of his imagination:1. completing the space transfer in a twinkling.2. completing the time continuation in a twinkling.3. imagining greatly.In Li Bai' thinking there is a full and sequential process of self-godded. He converted the complex of being an official into the happiness of imagining. He has two purpose of fairy-imagining: 1. physical perpetuation. 2. spiritual surpassing.The characteristics of artistic imagination during the prosperous Tang Dynasty:1. being full of vitality, optimistic, self-confident, free and romantic, and full of hope for the future.2. being powerful, resounding ,grand and heroic.3. being tranquil and lofty.4. being active to pursue the ideal, concerning the reality, and being responsible for society.The Tang. Dynasty of Li was troubled by the rebellion of An-shi from the fourteenth year of Tianbao and the rebellion lasted for eight years. Then the Tang Dynasty began to decline.
