This paper particularly probes into the various phenomenon of the numeral-classifier compound and its related problems from three aspects of syntax, semeiotics and pragmatics after observing a vast amount of linguistic material. According to different syntactical functions, the numeral-classifier compound is in the first part classified into the number-classifier compound as noun-modifier, the numeral-classifier compound as verb-modifier and the numeral-classifier compound as time measurement, whose syntactical functions are discussed respectively hi the second part .The conclusion of the discussion is that the numeral-classifier compound as noun-modifier and the numeral-classifier compound as verb-modifier are mutually complementary in syntactical function while the numeral-classifier compound as time measurement is multifunctional. In the third part is the overlapping phenomenon of the numeral-classifier compound discussed from aspects of syntax and semantics .in the fourth part is the semantic combination of the numbered-classifier compound with noun, verb and adjective discussed. Is also been pointed out that the semantic limitation for the combination is reciprocal .In the fifth and sixth parts is the function of limiting syntactical structure of the numeral-classifier compound discussed from aspects of semantics and pragmatics .The whole paper finally is concluded and the necessity of further research of the numeral-classifier compound is pointed out in the last part.
