A Research Into The Suffix "头" In Modern Chinese

This paper examines the suffix "头" which is widely used in modern Chinese. The paper is a multi-dimensional study on the suffix"头",trying to give a basic obseration,description and explanation.The linguistics world has produced many studies on the affix"头"for a long time. But the research about the affix "头" mostly focuses on three aspects: when the suffix "头" began to be used in combination with other unassociated words; the nature of the word "头";which words could be combined with it.The structure of the paper is as follows.The first part of the paper will introduce the current research on the affix "头", and points out the object,materials,means,content and basic conclusions of the paper.Section 2 presents some diachronic aspects of "头". In anicent Chinese,"头" was a substanive before The Six Dynasties,and it becomes a suffix in The Six Dynasties, and it's used a lot since Tang Dynasty.Scholars hold different opinions towards the nature of the word "头". So the section 3 compares "头" with the typical suffix "子",and investigates some features of "头" in modern Chinese.It's considered that "头" is a coexistence of real-suffix and quasi-suffix.Section 4 describes the function of the suffix "头" from two aspects: the grammaric function and the semantic function.The fifth part of the the paper probes into two restrictions which come from the course when "X"enters "X头" structure frame. The two restrictions are syllable restriction and the restriction of parts of speech.Section 6 presents the primary results of the paper.
