This paper studies the nongovernmental relationship between the united Shilla and the Tang Dynasty, centering on the regions where the Shilla people lived in the Tang Dynasty. Part One reveals the historical background of the Shilla people's arrival in China from the following aspects: the interior reasons of Shilla,the policy of opening to the world by the Tang Dynasty and the oriental net work of communication lines on the sea created by zhang Bao-gao. Part Two discusses the concept of "Shilla Fang", "Shilla Cun", "Shilla Zhai" ,"Shilla Guan" ,"Gou dang Shilla Suo" and other problems. It also corrects some mistake opinions in the academic circles, and illustrates the regions in which Shilla people lived in the Tang Dynasty and its traits and regular patterns as well. In addition, this part provides enough historical grounds to reveal the Shilla nongovernmental relationship between Shilla and the Tang Dynasty. Part Three illustrates the active part and significance which the nongovernmental association of Shilla and the Tang Dynasty played in the history of ancient relationship between China and Korea, through the discussion on the significance of strengthening economical and cultural exchanges on the sea , the historical contribution made by Shilla people who lived in the Tang Dynasty to improve the exchanges, and the importance of people's exchanges in ancient national mergence between China and Korea. Part Four studies the Buddhist activities of Shilla monks who came to the Tang Dynasty to study Buddhism through abundant examples. This part also reveals the contribution and its historical functions made by these monks in promoting ancient Buddhist and other exchanges between China and Korea, so as to improve their friendly relationship. The conclusion part generalizes the whole paper, further states the basic opinions of the author, and then strengthens the historical functions and the profound significance made by Shilla people in the Tang Dynasty in promoting the nongovernmental exchanges between China and Korea.
