According to the acceptance of Zhu Guangqian to Croce and Nietzsche in his early period, in the light of modernity theories in western countries and the comparative theory between the East and the West, this paper, from two aspects of independent aesthetics and tries to analyze the modernity contradiction in Zhu Guangqian's aesthetic thoughts at his early time.This paper has three parts: Part One combs the definition of modernity and points out the inner relation between Zhu Guangqian's aesthetic thoughts at his early time and the modernity. Part Two (Literature and Art and Aesthetics), from independent aesthetics, tries to show the modernity contradiction and its background Zhu Guangqian met when he established the theory of pure aesthetics. The Part Three (Literature and Art and Life), from aestheticism itself, tries to express his thoughts that people should live for art sake and analyze the contradiction and origin of his thoughts.
