The piano solo Fantasias of composers from Schubert to Liszt have rich musical emotions, which mainly include meanings such as symphonic, scherzando, poetic, and dramatic.Themes are varied, often associated with genres like folk songs, romantic songs, songs without words, recitatives, capriccios, divertimentos, preludes etc. Some are full of cantabile nature, and some are full of imagination or meditation. Also there are non-narrative tones.Structures are flexible, mainly resemble to frameworks of complicated large-scale forms such as Ternary, Sonata, Sonata-Rondo, and Divertimento or Cyclical From. They are extended to some degree. Some structures even have free-form tendency. Differences between themes are either obvious or unobvious. In the process of constructing the whole work, there are mainly two directions:poetic comparisons and dramatic contrasts. Poetic derivation and dramatic theme transformation are two main approaches to progress of music. Because of these, works become structure-expanded, structure-loosened or dynamics-continuous-progress.Poetic and dramatic are not only imagery existence to these fantasias, but also are essential driving force. |
