| With the rapid development of digital media technology and film-and-television production methods,Chinese documentaries have been appreciated more in the film-and-television industry and have an unlimited development space.The Beijing Olympic Games and the Beijing Winter Olympic Games have contributed new vigor to the creation and development of documentaries.Many creators seized this opportunity and created many excellent works with sports as the theme of documentaries to spread Chinese sports culture and spirit to the world.Through this research,the author found that the previous studies on the theme of documentaries mostly focused on the theme of intangible cultural heritage,reality,and biography.The research on sports documentaries generally focused on the analysis of the artistic characteristics,featuring characterizations and image expressions;There were few studies on the dramatic constructions of documentaries,which lead to a series of problems of sports-themed documentaries,such as the low level of overall quality,the style of singularity and vapidity,and the poor level of enjoyment.Those problems marginalized documentaries for a long time.Therefore,the author intended to apply the methods of literature reviews,case study,and experience summation to study the dramatic construction strategies of sports-themed character documentaries.This paper takes the sports-themed documentary Coach as an example,expounds it from five chapters.The first chapter is the research background,research significance,research methods and research innovation.The second chapter is the literature review of character documentaries,sports-themed character documentaries and strategies for dramatic construction in Character documentaries.The third chapter is the application of dramatic construction in sports-themed character documentaries.The fourth chapter is the reflection of the documentary Coach.The fifth chapter is the conclusion.In the third chapter,based on three different phases of this documentary creation（topic selection,on-site shooting,and editing）,the author proposed four major strategies-the selection of characters with dramatic conflicts to highlight the theme,the balance between objective reality and dramatic tension to shows the dramatic characteristics,Grasp the rhythm of the story to create a dramatic atmosphere,and the portrait of the character to deepen the emotional expression-and applied those strategies to the graduation project Coach.The innovation ideologies of this paper lie in（1）the innovation of the research subject: selecting a relatively unpopular sports-themed character documentary as a research subject,（2）the innovation of research ideas: during the early stage of this research,not only sports documentaries,but also sports films,sports TV dramas and typical character documentaries were watched and browsed,and（3）the innovation of research topic: this study conformed to the characteristics of the period and national goals of sports power.The author aimed to increase the publicity of the Chinese sports spirit in the form of sports-themed character documentaries.Coach is a documentary on sports characters focusing on professional track-and-field coaches.Using the countdown dates of the championships as the clue and through the creative method of live shooting,it tells the audience a story of a national track-and-field coach Renjie Zhang preparing students for the 2022 National Indoor Athletics Championships.The author intended to effectively expand the future development of Chinese sports-themed character documentaries and spread the spirit of Chinese sports with a combination of dramatic construction strategies and actual works in this research. |
