Studies On The Parallel Explanations Of Nouns, Verbs And Adjectives In Modern Chinese Dictionary

The Modern Chinese Dictionary has been recognized as the most canonical dictionary which gets the highest level in the academic circles. Through several revisions, the content and the style have been mature. It plays a great part in popularizing the common speech, carrying out Chinese teaching and promoting the Chinese standardizing. The paper takes parallel explanations of nouns, verbs and adjectives in the "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(the 5th edition) (MCD) as the object. This thesis makes the causes and rules of parallel explanations in MCD, and we hope the study can provide some reference for the paraphrase of the dictionary.The paper has five parts. The first part is introduction, outlining the former researches study of explanations of MCD and Parallel explanations in the present academic circles as well as the determination of study range and explanation of parallel explanations. The second part is the body of the paper. We make the qualitative and quantitative analysis and description of three kinds of parallel explanations in MCD which is divided into three chapters. In each chapter we describe the patterns of the synonyms parallel explanations,then summarize the characteristic of headwords and study the order that range synonyms parallel explanations present, and describe the syntax and semantics rules of the non-similarity explanations. The third chapter centers on the phrase Parallel explanations. We try to explain the reasons of parallel explanations. This part reveals reasons from the aspects of cognition, language, and explanation points. The forth section analyzes the parallel explanations from the angle of normalization, such as circulation definition, reiteration explanations,different meanings of definition and was not able to accurately express the word meanings, marking lack, dissymmetry and disunity mode of definition etc. At last the conclusion sums up the content and results of this article.
