Investigation And Research On The Classiifcationsystem For The Semantic Class Dictionary Of Modern Chinese

The study and research on the classification system for the semantic class dictionary ofmodern Chinese, not only deepens awareness and understanding of the classification systemof the meaning of Chinese vocabulary, but also improves the quality of the codification of thesemantic class dictionary, which plays a significant role in promoting the development ofnatural language processing.Based on summarizing the lexical semantic classification of Modern Chinese, according tothe needs of the compilation of semantic class dictionary and the development of Chineseinformation processing, in the spirit of meeting the practical needs of lexicography andpromoting the understanding between computer and lexical semantics, this thesis investigatesthe classification system of five people-oriented dictionaries and the four computer-orientedlexical semantic classification system, and sums up their respective characteristics andshortages, compared their internal similarities and differences, in accordance within theprinciples of Chinese characteristics. Also we find some problems of the classification, andpropose some recommendations on the relevant problems.This thesis is divided into five chapters, and each chapter is organized as follows:The first chapter is an introduction which summarizes the process of the lexicalclassification of Chinese vocabulary and the overview of the people-oriented andcomputer-oriented vocabulary classification system of modern Chinese. Also, it introduces theobject, significance and methods of this research.The second, third and fourth chapter are the main parts of the thesis.The second chapter is the investigation and research on the classification system of modernChinese vocabulary. We make a research on the classification systems of five dictionaries.They are “Congregation of Synonyms”(Mei Jiaju),“the Classification Dictionary of ModernChinese”（Xu Weimin）,“the Classification Dictionary of Concise Chinese”(Lin Xingguang,Fei Bai),“the Classification Dictionary of Modern Chinese”(Dong Danian), and “theMulti-used Dictionary of Chinese”(Lin Xingguang, etc.), aiming to summarize thecharacteristics and shortages, compare their similarities and differences, and find the commonproblems of their classifications.The third chapter is the investigation and research on the classification system of modern Chinese vocabulary based on the machine-used orientation. We introduce the905semanticclassification system, the semantic classification system of the973project, HowNet semanticclassification system (Dong Zhendong), the classification system for the semantic classdictionary of modern Chinese (Wang Hui, Zhan Weidong), and summarize the characteristicsand shortages, comparing the similarities and differences, to find out the problems of lexicalsemantic classification system for computer applications.The fourth chapter provides the proposals for the comparison and classification of the twoclassification systems. In terms of comparison, their similarities lie in the range ofclassification objects, classification methods, and the degree of classification. There aredifferences in the characteristics of classification, the classification level of processing and thequantities of classification. Also, there are some problems in the level of classification anddepth, the scientific nature of the classification and the absorptive capacity of classification.Based on these findings, this thesis makes some recommendations. Such as, we should makeclassification completely, scientifically and rationally. The classification system should havesufficient absorptive capacity, and we should pay attention to the man-machine dual-usedcharacteristic, etc.The last part of this thesis is conclusion, which summarizes the main content of this paper.It points out the shortages of our research and makes a forecast of follow-up study.The innovation of this thesis lies in focusing on meeting the practical needs forlexicographer which promotes the understanding between computer and lexical semantics. Bymeans of making a study on the lexical semantic classification system towards people andcomputer, we find some problems in the existence of the classification, and make somesuggestions, which have accumulated experience for lexical semantic classification ofChinese and provided beneficial references.
