Wan Kwoh kung Pao(wkkp) had a great place in Chinese modern periodical,which modern missionary in china founded the longest in time,the widest in distribution,the deepest in influence chinese periodical and had been fourty years.The dissertation is to study that the missionary observationed chinese traditional academic,Which narrated the history,version,documentary value of WKKP,academic background of the missionaries,along with the reasons why the missionaries concerned chinese traditional academic.It emphasized on introducing that the missionaries commented on all aspects of chinese traditional academic including four aspects such as the Buddhism,the confucianism,natural science and the Linguistics,summarized basic ideas of the missionaries and copared viewpoint of the missionaries with chinese scholars'.In addition,concluded standpoint of the missionaries about contrast of the defining characteistic between chinese and western academic,along with the reasons why chinese academic was behind western.Accoring to the drawbacks of chinese traditional academic,the missionaries discussed from five aspects for education reform in china including opening new schools,reforming imperical examination system,enriching teacher resources,imporing teaching methods and setting new courses,furthermore analysed the feasibility of these reform measures.At the last, the dissertation summed up research ideas of the missionaries which are effective to the contemporary.
