The Reconstruction Of A Clan Type Temple

The dissertation chooses the reconstruction of PANHU temple in Manshui village in Mayang Miao autonomous county of Hunan province as the research object, studying on the reconstruction process of a clan temple under the modern social context. Based on the fieldwork, the author studies those problems:PANHU temple's position surrounded in Manshui, its construction and reconstruction in history, its clan attribute and emphatically analyzes the reconstruction process of PANHU temple in 2001, and the variation of clan power in the immediate situation.The great family name in Manshui, Tian clan constructed PANHU temple in the second of year of Ming dynasty YongLe period, and from then on, considered it as their fathers temple, and constructed the family beliefs, worshipped year by year and the burning incense continued. It has become the symbolical cultural of Tian clan in the village 600 years ago, and then developed as the village faith center. Today many forces are involved in the reconstruction process of PANHU temple, constantly adding new cultural symbols:in design with "nation identity", trying to close to "village temple" levels in action, the set of symbolical significance of new PANHU hall began to digest and its attributes appear many different levels. In the reconstruction process of PANHU temple, the Tian families tried to safeguard the relationship between Tian clan and PANHU temple through remaining the old temple and the design details, and many individuals from Tian clan has played an important role during the process. Comparison with all the reconstruction process of PANHU in history, this dissertation thinks that one of important reasons for today's PANHU temple built is the PANHU faith which was existed in an ancient time and deep-seated, the result of mutual competition and cooperation between the emotion of Tian clan worship of PANHU Manitou with outside winning over the PANHU cultural resources identity.With the multilateral forces, the reconstruction process has been presenting complex and diverse, but in reconstruction and rebuilding tradition Tian clan is still dominant. Accordingly, among the local relationship under modern society the clan's strength weakening gradually, often would use traditional power:control the ceremonies of PANHU worshiping to consolidate and highlight the manipulation of their power cultural networks. Therefore, in modern times, the families type temples'reconstruction process, is the way that the clan through a combination with other powers reflected in the power structure of the village, and using these forces to obtain the clan's rights and interests. So it has a reference value for the study about temples'reconstruction and clan, but also for the study of the appearance of constitution behind clan temple and national temple.
