From 1950', first group of overseas students from eastern Europe came to China. The subject of teaching Chinese as a second language had gone through more than 60 years of development process till now. As promotion of China's international status and increasingly close cooperation and exchanges with other countries, more and more overseas students, overseas Chinese and foreign friends come to China to learn Chinese and know Chinese culture. In 2010, number of overseas students has achieved 265090, and that the number of overseas to study Chinese is more than 40 million. Traditional teaching in classroom has been unable to meet the learning needs of increasing number of students. Furthermore, with the development of mass media and application of television technology, more and more students choose to learn Chinese with television media.This thesis reviews literature of the function of television media, documentation of TV language teaching program of which combining television media and Chinese language teaching project, and audio-visual teaching in TCSL. The thesis introduces use of television media in international promotion of Chinese, and a systemic horizontal analysis on two Chinese TV program, Happy Chinese Season1 and Growing up with Chinese. To compare different teaching characteristics and the mainstream teaching model between two programs in teaching content arrangements, teaching organizing principle and teaching methods designing. The thesis also discuss how to use advantage of TV media to serve teaching Chinese as a second language effectively. Besides it, the thesis points out some restriction of TV media in international promotion of Chinese, and gives a few suggestions.The results of this research can lay a foundation for maintaining such exploration and practice in the future, and try to provide scholars in this area with some reference to make research sustainable.
