The Usage Of Berlitz Method In Teaching Chinese As A Second Language

Berlitz Method is produced by Maximilian D. Berlitz who was born in Germany and was proficient in linguistic through the process of guiding other teachers how to teach when he was ill. It is familiar to Direct Method, but it is a miracle that it is still used now in almost 500 Berlitz Language Centre in 60 countries and districts in the world after many new Teaching Methods instead of Direct Method. And it services for more than 20 kinds of languages including Chinese.I am working in Berlitz Language Centre for 1 year, and using the method in teaching Chinese everyday. In the teaching process, I got much experience in teaching Chinese with Berlitz Method and also came across some problems. I hope I can find the real crux about these problems through this essay and also want to call somebody's attention to this ancient language method.I analyzed Berlitz Method by describing cases and comparing with other Teaching Methods, and I find the reason for Berlitz's exist so many years is that there is a carrier—Berlitz Language Centre. The other is it throws "Just teacher speaking " away, so the class is vary active. But it also has many difficulties in teaching advanced Chinese because the specialty of students, teaching materials and teachers, etc.So I select two students who come from different countries (Japan and America) as the object, use the process of Chinese language improving as a clue, four general teaching materials in Berlitz Language Centre as the carrier, and go to case describing and comparing. I hope more and more people can know Berlitz Method through this essay and it can do some good to development of teaching method.
