From the mid-eighties of the twentieth century, the aesthetic thoughts of China begin to trend from aesthetic to ugliness. In the early stage they learnt simply from the results and experiences of western ugly theory, and now gradually refined to explore local resources to develop in line with our ugly theory of art features, and have been extended to animation which is a kind of special visual arts forms. Animated images are the soul of animations, which takes the audience into a wonderful virtual world. Animation aesthetics consider ugliness as beauty, and the ugly image-shaping of animated films is crucial. With the increasingly improved aesthetic psychology, "the Ugly" has become a kind of aesthetic experience which people are keen to get in life. They have begun to pay attention to ugliness and study the ugly images, objectively and wistfully. This paper studies on the ugly image-shaping of animated films in contemporary China from the perspective of ugliness, basing on aesthetic theory. It sorts out the classification of ugly images of animated films in contemporary China and discusses the basis and the common methods of ugly image-shaping by empirical analysis, inductive analysis and comparative. It points out the lack of ugliness-shaping in our animated films by analyzing the expectations of audience, and proposes a solution combining personal opinions, hoping to provide some enlightenment to the image-shaping of animated films in China.
