Animation is the shortened form of animated films and comics. The art of animation has aesthetic features of the painting language in the comics. On the other hand, it incorporates the comprehensive and artistic features in the animated films with the aesthetic features of the continuous images in the comics. On the aesthetic features, aesthetic values, aesthetic temperaments and aesthetic experiences, a variety of researches have been conducted as one of the most important subjects in such fields as philosophical aesthetics, psycho-aesthetics and socio-aesthetics. Aesthetic temperaments and experiences possess the objectivity and practicability of art aesthetics and philosophical aesthetics. Aesthetic temperaments are manifested by the aesthetic subject in the appreciation of the aesthetic objects.The aesthetic objects, together with aesthetic values of animation works, objectively determines the direction and content of the subjects'aesthetic feelings, and the degree of their aesthetic pleasure. Included as well are the psychological and emotional factors involved in the production and appreciation of animation works.People are emotionally connected with each other. If a person is deeply moved by the simplicity and sincerity of a certain feeling or emotion, the others with the similar aesthetic temperaments and experiences will be correspondingly infected. In the appreciation of animation works, it is referred to as aesthetic temperaments and experiences ---"to evoke in oneself a feeling one has once experienced". Therefore, it is safe to conclude that aesthetic temperaments and experiences exist not only in people's intrinsic perception but also in the correlation and interaction between the subjects and objects.Any pleasure and enjoyment acquired through aesthetic appreciation is accomplished by means of human thinking and practice. Estheticians both at home and abroad associate aesthetic temperaments and experiences with the essence of arts. Thus, the central issue of aesthetics is nothing but aesthetic experience.To begin with, the thesis explores the development course of comics, animated films and animation art, with the focus on mobility of aesthetic temperaments and aesthetic features of aesthetic experiences.The appreciation of animated films offers their audience aesthetic temperaments and aesthetic pleasure, while the audience in turn acquires the aesthetic pleasure and fun. In the context of popular culture, it has helped to promote the development of the audio-visual sensory aesthetic hedonism and experience. Animated films directly affect the aesthetic awareness and aesthetic temperaments of the contemporary youth.The thesis discusses the aesthetic temperaments and experiences of visual culture in the picture-reading time in the context of post-modernism.The thesis gives a brief review of the fruitful achievements of animated films in one hundred years'history, with the introduction of J. Stuart Blackton's Humorous Phrases of Funny Faces (1906), the first animated film in the world.Currently, animated films throughout the world have gone beyond the initial patterns of comics and cartoons. From their first appearance, animated films have developed from their originally single form into the present varied forms, the five being film animations, TV animations, DVA animations, game animations and web animations. They have become the most important pattern of cultural consumption among the contemporary young people and the public.In this thesis, the discussion is also conducted on the aesthetic features and aesthetic temperaments of Japanese comics, with Hayao Miyazaki as its representative.A brief analysis is made on aesthetic values and characteristics of American animated films with Disney as its typical example.Finally, the thesis analyses carefully the current development of China's animated films and its gap between themselves and the animation superpowers in the world.With the coming era of broadband 3G, digital mass media and internet transmission will be main stream of animations across the world. Therefore, the thesis focuses on the following how-toes, that is, on how to uphold the principle of"self-oriented, making the foreign serve China", on how to change the lagged-behind situation of China's animation industry with its open policy and reform, and how to complete the industrial chains and develop the animation industry into the pillar industry in the modern economic society. Therefore, great efforts should be made to improve the artistic presentation and competitiveness of Chinese animation art works. On the one hand, China should inherit and carry forward the artistic style and presentation techniques with Chinese characteristics and traditions. On the other hand, it should also absorb the essence and experience of animation art in the foreign countries. Consequently, a variety of excellent animation art works will be created to the taste of the public, and their aesthetic awareness, temperaments and experience will be enhanced.
