Objective: To investigate the relationgship between Homocysteine and insulin resistance in subjects with different glucose tolerances .Methods: 41 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM group), 35 patients with Impaired glucose regulation (IGR group), 30 subjects of normal glucose tolerance (NGT group) were conducted by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).To determine the serum homocysteine,HOMA-IR and HOMA-B were calculated to explore the relationship between homocysteine and blood sugar, insulin and HOMA-IR.Results:(1)The HCY in DM group and IGR group was significantly higher than those in NGT group, and which more dramatically high in DM group compared with those in IGR group(P <0.05).(2) Hcy was positively correlated to HOMA-IR,BMI,LDL-C waistline, DBP,FPG,2-hPG,FIN and negatively correlated to HOMA-B。(3)multiple regression stepwise analysis showed that homocysteine was indepentely associated with the HOMA-IR,BMI, waistline,FPG.Conclusion:1,The Hcy in DM group and IGR group was significantly higher than those in NGT group ,the level of homocysteine has rised in IGR stage .2,The level of serum Hcy could be influenced by HOMA—IR,BMI,DBP and FPG in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, the insulin resistance is an important correlation factor of hyperhomocysteinemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
