Objective:To explore the effect of interleukin-4(IL-4) and interferon-γ(IFN-γ) in allergic rhinitis(AR) and to provide evidences for AR and its typing in TCM.Data and methods:According to the standards of Haikou and differentiation of symptoms and signs in TCM, seventy-four cases with AR were selected, including 38 males and 37 females. These patients' mean age was 26.59±10.19 years, including 25 cases of insufficiency of lung-QI,20 cases of deficiency-weakness of spleen-QI,14 cases of insufficiency of kidney-YANG and 16 cases of lung meridian latent pyrexia. The normal control group contained twenty people (12 males and 8 females), whose mean age was 30.15±10.69 years. The levels of IL-4 and IFN-γin peripheral blood of the AR patients were measured using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Then the data in groups were analysed.Results:①It showed that the most of patients with AR appeared to asthenia syndrome through the differentiation of symptoms and signs for classification of syndrome on 75 cases. A part of them appeared to sthenia syndrome of lung meridian latent pyrexia. The group of insufficiency of kidney-YANG had the appearance of long course and nose running. The group of deficiency-weakness of spleen-QI had the severe appearance of nasal mucosal edema. The red of nasal mucosa were found in the cases of lung meridian latent pyrexia.②The levels of IL-4 in AR patients were increased significantly compared to the normal control (P<0.01), in which the level of the insufficiency of kidney-YANG group was highest, followed by the deficiency-weakness of spleen-QI group, the lung meridian latenBAS comparisons of two grups even have no significant difference. Conclusion:The changes of IL-4 and IFN-γin plasma participate in the morbidity of AR, as well as provide evidences and index of laboratory diagnosis to the differentiation of symptoms and signs for classification of syndrome of AR.
