The Study Of The Effect On Fracture Healing With Cerclage Band

Objective:Now the effects of cerclage band used in the treatment of fractures in the shaft of long bone were still unclear. The research aimed to observe the existence of fracture healing and the impact factors of cerclage band using the rabbit's femoral shaft fracture model.Methods:30 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into experimente and control groups (n=15). Establish the rabbit's femoral shaft fracture and intramedullary fixation model. The cerclsge band was added at the fracture site with the suitable pressure in the experimente group while the control group was not. The animals were sacrificed on the 2 weeks,4weeks and 6weeks after the operation and then analyzed the treatment result by general observation, bone mineral density, diameter of callus and histological observation. The data results were processed by SPSS10.0 program.Results:In general observation, there was finded separation displacement each of the control group at 2 weeks and 4 weeks,1 case of angular malunion at 6 weeks. Experimente group at all observation periods do not finded fracture displacement or abnormal situation appears. The external callus was less in the experiment group, but the differences of bone mineral density and the callus diameter on 2 weeks and 4 weeks had no statistical significance (t2 weeks=2.368,1.119, P> 0.05) (t4 weeks= 1.477,4.187, P>0.05). In the control group, the differences of bone mineral density and the callus diameter on 6 weeks had the significantly higher than the experiment group (t6 weeks=4.243,15.909, P<0.05～0.01). In histological observation we found the more growth of new trabecular bone and osteogenic cells than the control group after 4 weeks while in light microscope, it also showed more mature lamellar bone and the trabecular bone than the control group after 6 weeks in light microscope. In microscopic observation, there were no periosteal necrosis and atrophy performan-ce both in the experiment group and the control group.Conclusion:The cerclage band not only can maintain the stability, avoid the fracture displac-ement and deformity healing in fractures of the shaft of long bone, but also has no obviously impact to the periosteum and the blood supply on the fracture site with suitable pressure.
