Objective To know the pollution level of organic compound in surface water and treated water of Urumqi, and to explore whether these organic pollutants have estrogenic activities. Methods Collected three source water and treated water 20L and concentrated, then used GC/MS to detect and used NIST2005 database to calculate the peak area. The MCF-7 cells were cultured in 96 well plate, anhydrous ethanol (1%) as solvent control, E2(10-9mol/L) as positive control, the experimental groups were 6 water samples extracts, each extract grouped low-high three dose groups, equivalent to 500ml, 1000ml and 2000ml of original water, measured absorbance degree value (A) 24 hours later, and calculated average A value and proliferation rate. The MCF-7 cells were cultured in 24 well plate, E2(10-9mol/L) as positive control, the experimental group were six water samples extracts, measured Bax protein and Bcl-2 protein expression and calculated Bcl-2/Bax ratio. Results 40 organics were detected, hydrocarbons were the most species. The average organics removal rate of Hongyanchi water plant was higher(P<0.05); there was no significant difference between the Chenjian and the Sanyongbei water plant(P>0.05). The proliferation rate of Hongyanchi source water and treated water was the highest in 500ml dose groups(P<0.05); the Wulabo and Yanerwo source water and treated water in 1000ml dose group was the highest(P<0.05). In low dose groups, the proliferation rate of Hongyanchi source water was the highest(P<0.05). Bcl-2/Bax ratio in each experimental groups were higher than the positive group (P<0.05); Bcl-2/Bax ratio of the source water groups were higher than their corresponding treated water group(P<0.05). Conclusion The source water of Urumqi had certain organic pollution, the water plant's water treatment process played certain role on the removal of organic pollutants, but not completely removed, concentrated water sample had stronger estrogen-like effect.
