Mobile Phone Pollution Survey Perform In Medical Staff In Picu

Objective: To find out the situation of mobile phone usage and the current problems,by carrying out questionnaire in PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, PICU) of Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University.To speculate the role the mobile and fixed telephone played in cross-contamination,By detecting the sample from the hands of participants,mobile,fixed telephone,the types and drug sensitivity of the bacteria.Methods: In the September 15, 2009, we carried out a questionnaire about medical personnel for daily use, cleaning and other related mobile phone case.From September 15, 2009 to September 19, 2009 for 5 days ,we take samples from mobile phones and hands of medical staffs, and samples from fixed telephone keypad in intensive care unit ; medical staff clean their hands before touching mobile phone, and then collected samples of the corresponding hand.we incubated all of the samples , and take susceptibility test for some bacteria.Results: 39 staff (86.7%) often use mobile phones at work, 28 staff (62.2%) considered the use of mobile phones at work will cause cross-infection.27 staff (60%) used to wash hands before using mobile phones,and nobody wash hand after using the phone.26 staff had never cleaned their phones.In the 70 mobile phones, 56 (80%) were contaminated with bacteria; in the 70 samples from corresponding hand, 50 (71.4%) were contaminated with bacteria.There were contaminations of hands and mobile phones in 3 healthcare workers; In the 20 fixed telephones, 18 (90%) were contaminated with bacteria.Most of the Staphylococcus haemolyticus are multi-resistant .After use the mobile phones, the rate of contamination of the hands increase from 0 / 20 to 10/20,and 2 / 20 of the hands contaminated by pathogen.Conclusion:1. Mobile phones and hands of personnels in ICU and fixed telephones are as reservoirs for kinds of pathogens.Opportunistic pathogens that can couse Nosocomial infection is also included.2.Gram-positive bacteria is dominated.Some of the contaminated bacterials can cause nosocomial infection, just like Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and so on3.The rate of bacterial contamination of mobile phones and hands in residents and nurse is the highest.4. Mobile phone and fixed telephone as medium for dissemination can play an important role in nosocomial infection. 5. To regulate the use of mobile phones in ICU,further study is necessary.
