Objective: To study the clinical manifestations and the laboratory results of extra intestinal organ damage after rotavirus enteritis in infants and young children. Methods: 276 children with acute diarrhea were involved from January 2007 to October 2009 in the hospital. Fecal samples were taken. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect rotavirus immunoglobulin M. All patients were divided into rotavirus immunoglobulin M positive group (detected group, 112 children)and negative group (control group, 164 children). A retrospective analysis was given in this study, the clinical differences between two groups (general state, symptom, manifestation extra intestinal organ damage and laboratory data: blood routine, suitable routine, blood biochemistry, sternum, and prognosis between them.) were analyzed. In this data, renal damage was analysed by sero-cystational (was detected reflecting renal function sensitively). Results: Significant difference was detected (P=0.0271) between two groups in extra intestinal involvement after rotavirus infection. No difference (P<0.05) was detected in simultaneous phenomenon (deprivation of body fluids, electrolyte derangement, and acid base-equability derangement). The incidence of extra intestinal damage has no relation with condition of patients. Comparing incidences of liver damage in different age stage in detected group, Significant difference(P=0.0130)was detected between≤1 age group and >1 age group, the lower age for rotavirus infection, the higher incidences of liver damage. Incidence for extra intestinal organs damage in detected group was cardiac damage(64.2857%), respiratory apparatus damage(31.25%),liver damage(25%),renal damage(11.6071%) respectively,Meanwhile, significant difference was detected in incid- ence of cozzesponding organs damage in two groups. cardiac damage(P=0.0083), respire- atory apparatus damage(P=0.0475),liver damage (P=0.0211), renal damage (P=0.0384) respectively. Conclusions:The extra intestinal damage after rotavirus infection mostly displays delitescence and deuto-clinic. Incidence was no cozzesponding with condition of patients.Extra-stomach intestine organs'impairment should be raised while we treat patients who infected rotavirus.A better prognosis should be got by effective treatment in general.
