Object: According to the study of controlled sampling survey, to study the prevalence of TMD in middle students of Urumqi city, discuss the related factors to TMD, and further to study the effect of psychological factors in etiology of TMD, which is helpful to the further development of etiology, clinical medicine and social medicine. Method: A sample of 1,408 students who came from grade 7 to 9 whose age were from 12 to 15 years old(774 males, 634 females), was randomly selected in Urumqi City. The subjects were investigated both by questionnaire to assess subjective disorders and by clinicalexamination to determine objective symptoms. all data were analyzed by the SPSS17.0 packages. Result : The incidence of TMD in this research was 16.69%, 14.24% in male and 19.6% in female, and the differences were significant (P <0.05). Of the past symptoms, 8.23% with sound of joint movement, 5.11% with pain, but In clinical examination, 2.57% with masticate muscle pain and 2.98% with joint region pain. The TMD existed a difference between male and females and to compare to bruxism and tense the odontoprisis, motional anxiety was all significant (P <0.05). Conclusion: TMD is one of the most common disease in oral-maxillofacial position. It was founded that TMD easily occur in female, but prevalence was not high in youth; The sound of joint movement was the most common appearance in TMD, while the pain was the next but the main cause of the subjects to seek treatment; The statistical analysis showed that motional anxiety was correlated with TMD and these psychological factors might influence TMD. So adolescent should be cared for their oral health, and given some treatment of motional cognition and explanation to TMD patients earlier.
