Objective:To explore the prevalence and distribution of temporomandibular disorders(TMD) and the related factors to TMD in Uigur and Han young people with 17-28years from Xingjiang medical university.Methods:A sample of 812 persons was randomly selected from general populationin Xingjiang.The subjects were investigated both to assess subjective disorders using questionnaire and to determine objective symptoms by clinical examination.The Anamestic and Clinical Dysfunction Indices(Ai and Di) according to Helkimo were employed.Results:The percentage distribution of the sample was as follows:AiO=73.40%;Aiâ… +â…¡=26.60%;Dio=60.50%;Diâ… -â…¢= 39.50%.Conclusions:â‘ It was found that the prevalence of temporomandibular joint disorders was 39.50%.The prevalence of TMD might not be influenced by region,race and society;â‘¡In anamnestic symptoms and clinical symptoms,the incidence of TMD in males might be less significant than in females.â‘¢The incidence of malocclusion group was higher than that group without malocclusion.It is believed that occlusal factors have a closer relationship with temporomandibular joint disorders.â‘£This disease is associated with some factors as bruxism,biting laterally.
