Based on Wumei Wan 251 modern clinic cases from 1990 to 2008, using frequency statistics and correlative rules, a full range of study has been carried out in the diagnosis of diseases, symptoms, tongue, pulse, frequency and dosage of herbs, syndrome (including etiology, disease-location, nature of disease), as well as age and gender.The result shows that the application of Wumei Wan is extremely broad, covering almost clinical practice, and mainly in digestive system diseases, it also can be used in by gynecological diseases, ascariasis. The core symptoms of the formula are diarrhea, aversion to cold and cold limbs, abdominal pain, poor appetite, lassitude, restlessness, vomiting. The reference symptoms of the formula are abdominal distension, dizziness, weight loss, bitter taste in the mouth, stomach pain, thirst without much drinking, thirst with much drinking, blood purulend stool, pale complexion, insomnia, soreness and weakness of lower back and knee, lassitude, shallow, fever, borborygmus, mucous stool, headache, dark urine, tenesmus, belching. The indication of tongue is reddish tongue with thin and white coating, the pulse is thready and wiry. The etiologic factors are deficiency of qi or deficiency of yang, seven emotions, diet and parasitic malnutrition. The locations of disease are spleen, stomach and liver. The nature of disease is mixture of cold and heat. The core herbs are correspond with Wumei Wan. The essential herbs are Fructus Mume (18.78±10.81g),Rhizoma Coptidis (7.48±3.01g) Rhizoma Zingi-beris (6.90±3.10g) Radix Codonopsis (13.99±5.27g),Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (7.96±3.83g). The reference herbs are Radix Angelicae Sinensis (10.36±3.28g),Herba Asari (3.83±1.62g),Cortex Phellodendri (8.75±3.51g),Ramulus Cinnamomi (8.04±3.10g),Pericarpium Zanthoxyli (5.93±2.67g).The functions of the added herbs are purging pathogenic fire of liver, invigorating spleen, relieving pain, eliminating parasite and clearing away heat.In addition, a discussion compared to the classical formula and syndrome of Wumei wan is unfolded from the scope of treatment, the clinical manifestation, syndrome and herbs.
