Objective:Adenoidal hypertrophy is a considerable causation of maxillofacial abnormalities. The purpose of this study was to compare dimensionally the sizes of the adenoidal tissues and in juvenile and adolescent people with and without cleft lip and palate (CLP), to observe the feature speciality of the people with cleft lip, providing theory reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment reference design theory of the malocclusion with cleft lip. Methods:The subjects were selected from patients with malocclusion treated at Tianjin Dental Hospital from 2007-2009. The subjects were divided into 2 paired groups of age-matched male subjects:10 juveniles with CLP (CLP-1, mean age,9.2 years); 10 juveniles without CLP (Control-1, mean age,9.8 years); 20 adolescents with CLP (CLP-2, mean age,15.6 years);and 20 adolescents without CLP (Control-2, mean age,15.9 years). Measurements of adenoidal tissues were determined by using lateral cephalograms. Measure the survey articles index, like the thickness of adenoid, the area of adenoid, the ratio of the thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity. Applying analysis of variance to detect the average value of the 4 groups and carrying out the principle of statistics analysis. Analyzing and comparing the four group numerus. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test for significant differences in mean values of each measurement among the 4 groups. When ANOVA was significant, the Scheffe'method of multiple comparisons was used to test for between-group and among group differences.Results:1. (CLP-1) compared with (Control-1):the thickness of adenoid, the area of adenoid, the ratio of the thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity are obviously increasing.2. (CLP-2) compared with (Contrl-2):the thickness of adenoid, the area of adenoid the ratio of thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity of ANR-U2 have no obviously difference. The ratio of thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity of ANR-Ba is obviously increasing.3. (CLP-1) compared with (CLP-2):the thickness of adenoid, the area of adenoid, the ratio of the thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity are obviously increasing.4. (Control-1) compared with (Contrl-2):the thickness of adenoid of T1, the area of adenoid, the ratio of thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity are obviously increasing. The thickness of adenoid of T2 has no obviously difference.Conclusions:1. CLP juveniles compared with control group:the thickness of adenoid, the area of adenoid, the ratio of thickness of adenoid and the width of pharyngonasal cavity are obviously increasing.2. The larger adenoidal tissues in the CLP/j group, compared with those in the control/j group, decreased to a similar size with aging.
